The ford thunderbird began life in february 1953 in direct response to chevrolet's new sports car, the corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the detroit auto show on february 20, 1954. Production of the thunderbird began later in 1954 on september 9 with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on october 22, 1954. Though sharing some design characteristics with other fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the thunderbird was sleeker and more athletic in shape, and had features like a faux hood scoop and a 140-mph speedometer hinting a higher performance nature that other fords didn't possess. This thunderbird has undergone a partial restoration, and is in fantastic driver quality condition. The list of mechanicals that have been modified are: the 312 cid ford engine was swapped out in 1974 with a 350 cid chevrolet engine to provide a little more get up and go for this classy chassis. It is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission that was also added in 1974. The car has 2 known owners and was restored back in 1998 by the latest owner to preserve this piece if history. The exterior is in good condition and would get some heads turning driving down the road. The interior of the car is in good original condition with a few small additions such as the engine turned aluminum dash to improve the appearance. Some additional features include power steering, power windows, white walls, cassette, am/fm radio, and power seats. All in all, this adds up to a clean light blue bird that really is a joy to drive. Vehicle is equipped with a 312 cu in. Y block v-8 and a warner t-85, 3 speed standard transmission with overdrive. Frame off restoration started in 2003. Vehicle was back together in 2005. Less than 1000 miles since it was done. True mileage is not known, odometer shows frame sandblasted and painted. Front suspension, brakes and steering rebuilt. New stainless fuel and brake lines. All new dual exhaust. Engine rebuilt and transmission overhauled. Transmission low and reverse gear were repaired because replacement parts are not available and there is minor gear noise in low or reverse, does not effect driveability. Rear axle is original condition no known problems. Body was restored, new body mounts, floors and rocker panels. Some new ornamentation. Vent frames, grille and bumpers rechromed. New "abc" interior done in original style cloth and vinyl. Installation of interior by professional trim shop. All glass is original with a mark in the windshield. New heater core and water temperature valve. I did not connect heater hoses because it was not driven in the winter. Car is done using original design items. The only aftermarket items are the under dash water temperature, oil pressure and ammeter gauges. Car runs and drives with no known problems. Vehicles is complete but has some minor work to finish entirely. Radio and clock do not work. Some minor chrome trim imperfections that need to be corrected if a "show car". I would invite personal inspections to any interested bidder. I will also attempt to answer any questions. Vehicle is sold as-is, where-is. No warranty is given. I do not make shipping arrangements. No international shipping.

The car is powered bya 312 v8 rated at 245 hp. The car is finished in the very attractive coral sandcolor. The body, paint, chrome, engine compartment, interior and chassis haveall been graded 'excellent' in a march 2017 appraisal report. Themarket on vintage thunderbird's has been very stable for years. This is afirst generation t-bird which was produced from 1955 to 1957. This is adesirable model of the thunderbird, and is in a condition, quality andoriginality that makes this an investment grade vehicle. The cars owner recentlypassed away and is being sold from his private collection by the estate trustee. The car is sold as is with no warranties.

This is a second owner vehicle that i purchased in 1972. The car had 75,000miles when purchased. At 90,000 the engine threw a rod and it was replaced witha ford, gpd long block. The car currently has 112,500 original miles and waslast registered in 1979. The vehicle has been in storage since 1979. The car hasbeen restored in the last year. The engine has been tuned and has a rebuiltholly 4 bbl carburetor. The vehicle has a new white paint and numerous newemblems and trim pieces. The weatherstripping with the exception of the top hasall been replaced. The interior was redone with new upholstery, door panels,kick panels, carpeting, and all new window and door handles inside and out. Therear springs have been re-arched and all new bushings and rear shock absorbershave been installed. The brake shoes, all springs, wheel cylinders and mastercylinder have been rebuilt or replaced with new. The car has new brake hosesfront and rear. The front sway bar bushings have been replaced and the car hasrechromed bumpers. The dash panel has new chrome reveals and lenses and thegauge needles have been restored to the original color. The only damage was adent in the left rear quarter panel that was repaired prior to my purchasing thecar and a small dent in the valance in front of the hood that was repaired in1974. This car has been in california since it was manufactured at the san joseassembly plant in 1957. The body and undercarrage are solid and rust free. Thetop works flawlessly. Modern performance radial tires these photos really do not do this awesome show quality ranchero justice acg is so proud to offer this incredible fully restored and slightly modified ranchero. Redone in the original colors with all new glass, refurbished trim, rechromed bumpers, and all new interior. It is a stunning example of one of the coolest fifties cars offered by ford. I took the photos but do not think they do this beauty justice. The color combination is fabulous. It was nice and solid to start with so they did not remove the body from the frame. Every nut and bolt was refurbished or replaced as needed. Since the crew at acg did the restoration in house they took the liberty to make some very tasteful and useful upgrades. While it was apart they took the original dash and built in a cd radio. Then a terrific idea was brought to reality with custom cut factory looking ac vents for the vintage air system. It was tastefully done and looks like it should have been like that from the factory! A true form meets function addition. A complete brand new top to bottom interior was custom stitched and installed with new carpet and new headliner. A new tilt steering column was added with an original steering wheel. While attacking the chassis wilwood high performance power front disc brakes replaced the old drum set up. Also a modern borgeson power steering unit was added. They elected to add thunderbird wire wheels with radial tires for retro looks but better handling. The body was left totally stock with all the trim and chrome accents intact. The hard to find and replace grille is perfect! The bed is as nice as the rest of the car. They did not go overboard as to wind up with a trailer queen. They want a great car that drives every bit as good as it looks. This ranchero is that kind of car. Ready for the open road or the autorama. Air Conditioning
